Indian tourist bus attacked amid Nepal unrest; several injured

Date:

An Indian tourist bus returning from the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu was allegedly attacked by protesters amid ongoing political crisis in Nepal, leaving several passengers injured. The incident reportedly occurred on September 9 near Sonauli, close to the India-Nepal border. The bus, carrying 49 Indian nationals, came under attack when protesters pelted stones, shattering windows and injuring multiple passengers, including women and elderly individuals, PTI reported.
Local authorities in Nepal admitted the injured to a hospital in Kathmandu. The remaining passengers were flown back to India on a special flight arranged by the Indian Embassy, in coordination with the Nepalese government, the report said.
Speaking to reporters in Sonauli, driver Ramu Nishad recounted the incident: “We were returning after darshan at the Pashupatinath temple when a mob suddenly surrounded the bus and began attacking. There were women and elderly passengers on board, but the protesters paid no heed.”The attack is believed to be linked to the ongoing demonstrations in Nepal, led by a youth-driven group known as Gen Z, which has been demanding the dissolution of Parliament and constitutional reforms. The group, which has spearheaded anti-government protests, held a press conference on Thursday to voice its demands, even as its representatives engaged in talks with Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel and Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel to seek a resolution to the crisis.

The death toll from the protests has reportedly risen to 34.
