Iran issues new transit rules for ships passing through Strait of Hormuz

Date:

Iran on Friday, issued a notice outlining procedures for vessels seeking passage through the Strait of Hormuz during the period covered by the Iran – US peace deal, what it termed as Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).According to a notice issued by the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), vessels that submit passage requests to the authority in compliance with specified requirements will be cleared for transit promptly. The authority said requests must be submitted through its official website or designated email channel and include valid and accessible vessel contact information.

To avoid delays, shipowners have been instructed to submit complete passage requests at least 48 hours before arriving at the strait area.
The notice also stated that, during the 60-day period, tariffs related to security, safety and environmental services, along with related Iranian insurance charges, will not be collected from shipowners and will instead be borne by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

PGSA further said coordination of designated routes and scheduled passage times is mandatory for all vessels due to the presence of mine-affected areas and the need to ensure safe passage and prevent collisions.

Failure to comply with these requirements will be the responsibility of the vessel owner, it added.
