Iran says India can do more to ease West Asia conflict as US talks face trust issues

Date:

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Thursday said India can play a “greater role” in promoting peace in West Asia.Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Araghchi said there is “no military solution” to anything related to Iran and stressed that the West Asia crisis can only be resolved through a negotiated settlement.

Araghchi also said Iran is ready to help facilitate the passage of all vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, while describing the situation there as “very complicated”.

On negotiations with the United States, he said the talks are “suffering from trust” and blamed contradictory American messages for deepening mistrust.“Every day is different from yesterday. A tweet today is different from yesterday’s,” he said, adding that some “spoilers” and “warmongers” were trying to derail diplomacy and drag the US into another war.

The Iranian foreign minister reiterated that Iran has “never wanted nuclear weapons” and expressed hope that diplomacy would ultimately prevail.

He also said mediation efforts by Pakistan had “not failed yet.”
