Iran, a signatory of the NPT since 1970, maintains that its nuclear programme is strictly peaceful. However, the IAEA reported last week that Iran was not in full compliance with its treaty obligations.
Iran’s envoy warned that the strike undermines the credibility of the global non-proliferation regime and poses a threat to the legal framework governing civilian nuclear energy. The requested extraordinary IAEA meeting is aimed at addressing these concerns in an international forum.
