US President Donald Trump said Iran “will never have a nuclear weapon” as he announced that the United States has begun “major combat operations” inside the country.
In a video message posted on Truth Social, Trump declared: “We will ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon.” He added, “They will never have a nuclear weapon.”
The remarks came after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, with explosions reported in Tehran and other cities.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation had been named “The Lion’s Roar,” as both countries confirmed military action amid sharply escalating tensions.
The President said, “A short time ago, the United States military began major combat operations in Iran. Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.”
Trump described the Iranian regime as posing direct risks to US forces and allies, saying its activities “directly endanger the United States, our troops, our bases overseas, and our allies throughout the world.”
Referring to previous military action, he said that during “Operation Midnight Hammer” last June, the US had “obliterated the regime’s nuclear program at Fordeaux, Natanz, and Isfahan,” and warned Iran not to resume its nuclear pursuit.
He said the current military campaign is intended to stop Iran from rebuilding its nuclear capabilities and developing long-range missiles. “The United States military is undertaking a massive and ongoing operation to prevent this very wicked, radical dictatorship from threatening America and our core national security interests,” he said.
Trump also addressed members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and security forces, saying: “You must lay down your weapons and have complete immunity or in the alternative face certain death.”
Speaking to the Iranian public, he urged civilians to remain indoors. “Stay sheltered, don’t leave your home. It’s very dangerous outside. Bombs will be dropping everywhere,” he said.
The President acknowledged the risks of the operation, stating: “The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties. That often happens in war.”
