Even so, broader efforts to end the war in West Asia remain uncertain, despite Tehran saying negotiations are underway. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said contacts with the US have not been cut off, though negotiations have yet to yield progress.
He also defended Iran’s ongoing military operations, describing them as self-defence strikes against sites allegedly used by the US to target civilian shipping and violate the ceasefire, warning that any hostile action would draw an immediate response.
Iran’s Fars News Agency, citing a member of the country’s negotiating team, said no final decision has been made and that discussions remain ongoing. The official added that one of the key reasons earlier talks in Islamabad failed was Iran’s refusal to enter nuclear negotiations, while reiterating that Tehran would not accept any agreement that ignores developments in Lebanon.
