Waters off Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean has become the first front outside West Asia in the ongoing US-Israeli attacks on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory strikes after the US sank Iranian warship IRIS Dena on Wednesday, March 4 in what it described as a “quiet death”.
Asked if the US informed Israel about the maritime attack, Ambassador Azar said he was not aware of such communication.
“I am not aware of that. Anyway, this is in the Indian Ocean where Israel is not present. It’s completely under the command of the US,” he told CNBC-TV18.
Azar added that Israel generally does not operate in such regions as they are too far from its operational reach.

“Generally, we don’t act in these regions. They are too far away from our country and capability,” he said.
He said Israel is currently focused on coordinating a complex military operation centred around Iran.
“We are coordinating a very complicated military operation that is basically intended around Iran,” Azar said.
Iran’s IRIS Dena and other ships were returning after taking part in the International Fleet Review 2026 in Visakhapatnam, India.
