The machines performed kung fu moves, including nunchaku routines, jumps and rapid formation shifts. Some executed single-leg backflips and parkour-style vaults over obstacles, landing without visible instability. Others transitioned from slow walking to coordinated group movement in seconds.Unitree founder and CEO Wang Xingxing said the goal was to push technical limits. “We wanted to push the limits of robots on the gala stage,” Xingxing was quoted as saying by CGTN.
One segment showed robots jumping several metres into the air using customised launch systems. Wang said the team ran extensive simulations before testing in real conditions. The challenge, he explained, involved balance, timing, and landing control – all at once.
The 2026 performance was built on an earlier version shown in 2025. Last year, robots performed simpler tasks such as synchronised walking and hand movements. This time, they ran, turned quickly, and performed coordinated martial arts actions.
Engineers upgraded the robots’ cluster control system, allowing dozens of machines to move together with minimal delay. An AI-based positioning system processed sensor and lidar data continuously. That allowed the robots to adjust their movements in real time, even after jumps or sudden turns, as per the CGTN report.
Unitree said that the demonstration has practical applications. Systems used for formation control could later be applied in warehouse logistics, inspection work, and assembly lines. The robots’ ability to maintain balance while an external force is applied could also help in heavy lifting or precision manufacturing.
In another video, which went viral earlier this month, humanoid robots were also seen taking part in a kung fu class alongside monks at a Shaolin temple in Henan province.
On February 5, one model, known as the Lingxi X2 and developed by Agibot, appeared in widely shared video.

For China, the gala performance was more than entertainment. It served as a public display of robotics progress – and a signal of where development efforts are heading next.
