Mass shooting at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania: 4 shot during homecoming event, campus on lockdown

A mass shooting occurred at Lincoln University in Chester County, Pennsylvania, on Saturday (October 24) night during homecoming celebrations, injuring four people.Gunfire broke out shortly after 9 p.m. near the university’s football field, where a tailgate and yardfest event was taking place. Videos shared online showed a large crowd enjoying the event before the shots were fired.

According to the Oxford Borough Police Department, four victims sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment. CBS News reported that the shooting happened during the historically Black university’s homecoming weekend, about 50 miles west of Philadelphia.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that law enforcement responded to the scene and that an investigation is ongoing. In statements posted on Facebook and X, the office said there were multiple victims and asked the public to avoid the area while police continue their work.

FOX29, citing police sources, reported that there was no active shooter at the time but no suspects were in custody. Authorities have not shared information about a possible motive. Baltimore Pike near the campus was closed as the investigation continued.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said his administration had offered support to Lincoln University President Brenda Allen and local law enforcement. He urged residents to stay clear of the area and to keep the university community in their prayers.

Chester County Commissioner Eric Roe also asked people on Facebook to pray for the university’s staff and students.

Witnesses told CBS News Philadelphia that they saw emergency crews performing CPR on one victim. Some reports suggested people were trampled while fleeing, though this has not been confirmed.

The campus was temporarily placed on lockdown as police searched the area. Students and nearby residents were advised to stay indoors and follow police instructions.

Social media users expressed concern as news of the shooting spread. Several people said they were praying for the victims and for students on campus.

Lincoln University, located along Baltimore Pike in western Chester County, is a historically Black college about 50 miles from Philadelphia.
