Mamdani’s mother, filmmaker Mira Nair, was mentioned in the latest Eptsein files released on Friday, January 31. The US Department of Justice had released three million pages, 180,000 images, and 2,000 videos.

In videos posted on X, protesters were seen accusing Mamdani of lying to them. “We advocated for you, we voted for you…you ain’t do nothing but get up there and lie to us,” a protester said, as others joined in shouting “shame”.
Mamdani swore in as New York City’s mayor on January 1, 2026, becoming the first Muslim mayor and first person of South Asian descent to lead the city in its 400-year history.

Filmmaker Mira Nair’s name appears in an email sent by publicist Peggy Siegal to Epstein on Octiber 21, 2009. In it, Siegal wrote about an afterparty held at Ghisline Maxwell’s townhouse for Nair’s film Amelia, starring starring Hilary Swank and Richard Gere.
“Just left Ghislaine’s townhouse…after party for film,” the early-morning message said.
“Bill Clinton and Jeff Bezos were there…Jean Pigozzi, director MIra Nair…etc. Film received tepid reaction though women like it much more…Hillary Swank and Gere are at stupid party in Bloomingdales cheap sportswear department…very weird,” the email continued.
