Pahalgam terror attack: Pakistan shuts airspace to Indian airlines, closes Wagah border

Date:

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a National Security Committee (NSC) meeting on Thursday, April 24, and has decided to close the Pakistani airspace to all Indian airlines and the Wagah border in Amritsar. The decision has come in response to India’s strong reaction following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22.
Pakistan also rejected India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, saying that it is a lifeline for 240 million Pak citizens, reported PTI. “Any attempt to divert or stop water meant for Pakistan under Indus Water Treaty will be considered Act of War,” read a statement by Pak.
Pakistan has also suspended all trade with India, including that happens through the means of other countries with immediate effect.
The airspace has been closed to all airlines, owned and operated by Indians. “Any threat to Pak’s sovereignty, security will be met with firm reciprocal measures in all domains,” it said.Read more: India suspends visa services to Pakistani nationals with immediate effect

A complete diplomatic and logistical freeze is reportedly now in action, as it has suspended all bilateral agreements along with the Simla Agreement.

It has asked the military advisers at Indian High Commission to leave by April 30, while also suspending visas for Indians under SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme, barring Sikh pilgrims. India also banned the visas for Pakistani nationals and has asked each individual in the country to leave within 48 hours, as per Pakistani daily, Dawn.

Pakistan has said that it unequivocally condemns terrorism. “Pakistan declares the Indian Defence, Naval and Air Advisors in Islamabad persona non grata. They are directed to leave Pakistan immediately but not later than 30 April 2025,” Pak’s statement said.

PM Modi today said, “India will identify, track and punish every terrorist” and the ones who are behind them avenging the loss of lives of the people. He was addressing a public gathering in Bihar’s Madhubani on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day.
