In the 131st episode of his radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, February 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Indian-origin cricketers representing foreign teams, highlighting the enduring spirit of ‘Bhartiyata’ across the world.The Prime Minister said that wherever Indians go, they carry a deep connection to their matrabhoomi (motherland) while contributing wholeheartedly to the growth of their karmabhoomi (place of duty). He noted that the achievements of Indian-origin players abroad reflect both their professional commitment and their cultural roots.
PM Modi said, “Nowadays, you must be watching T20 World Cup matches. I am sure that while watching a match, you must be eyeing a particular player. The jersey may belong to another country, but hearing their name makes you realise they are from our country. The moment gives you a slight happiness because the player is of Indian origin and is playing for the country where his family settled.”
“They step onto the field wearing the jersey of their country and wholeheartedly represent that nation,” he added. “India-origin players are also creating a place for themselves in the teams of New Zealand, UAE, and Italy. Many such Indian-origin players are bringing pride to their countries and becoming an inspiration for the youth there,” he said.Emphasising the larger role of sports, Modi said it plays a crucial part in shaping individuals and society. “One who plays, blooms,” he remarked, adding that sports have the power to bring people together beyond boundaries.The Prime Minister underlined that sporting achievements not only inspire young athletes but also strengthen emotional ties between nations, reinforcing unity through shared passion.“This is the speciality of Bhartiyata. Wherever they go, Indians remain connected to the roots of their motherland, and they also contribute to the development of their karmabhoomi,” the Prime Minister added.
