PM Modi reviews ₹30,000 crore infra projects, pushes rooftop solar and faster execution

Date:

PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday, May 27, reviewed seven major infrastructure projects worth around ₹30,000 crore across the railways, power and road sectors during the 51st PRAGATI meeting, while also assessing progress on the Ken-Betwa river-linking project and Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0.The projects reviewed span nine states and are aimed at improving connectivity, boosting clean energy adoption and accelerating public infrastructure execution.

Focus on rooftop solar expansion

During the review of power sector projects, the Prime Minister called for rooftop solar installations to be rolled out in mission mode across urban areas, residential complexes and public institutions. He said expanding rooftop solar capacity would help lower electricity costs, strengthen energy security and promote clean energy adoption at the household level.Modi also asked authorities to explore innovative use of canal infrastructure, including installation of solar panels over and alongside canals to generate renewable energy while reducing water evaporation losses.Vadhavan Port to be developed as multi-modal logistics hubReviewing road and port connectivity projects, the Prime Minister said the proposed Vadhavan Port should be developed as a model for port-led, multi-modal infrastructure development. He stressed that the project should integrate coastal shipping, inland waterways, highways, dedicated freight corridors, airport connectivity and high-speed rail networks to create a future-ready logistics ecosystem.Push for Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 implementationWhile reviewing Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, Modi directed states to speed up the completion of solid waste management infrastructure, including waste processing facilities and GOBARdhan plants. He emphasised that the mission should focus not only on infrastructure creation but also on measurable outcomes through regular monitoring, citizen participation and coordination among stakeholders. The Cabinet Secretary also informed that a system of monthly state-level reviews of social sector schemes has now been operationalised following the Prime Minister’s directions, starting with Swachh Bharat Mission reviews.Ken-Betwa project should become model for statesReviewing the Ken-Betwa River Inter-linking Project, Modi said the initiative should serve as a model for resolving inter-state water issues through cooperation, timely approvals and technology-based monitoring. He encouraged states to identify similar opportunities involving river-linking, water conservation, groundwater recharge and irrigation projects to improve long-term water security.PM flags impact of delays in public projectsThe Prime Minister underlined that delays in infrastructure projects result in cost escalations and deprive citizens of timely access to key services and development benefits. He urged ministries, departments and states to adopt a proactive and time-bound approach to resolve bottlenecks and ensure faster implementation of projects.
