Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Delhi-Dehradun economic corridor on Tuesday (April 14), a project aimed at significantly cutting travel time between the two cities. The 213-km, six-lane access-controlled expressway — built at a cost of over ₹12,000 crore — will reduce travel time from more than six hours currently to around two-and-a-half hours, according to an official statement.
Spanning Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, the corridor is expected to enhance connectivity across key economic and tourism hubs, opening up new avenues for trade and development.
As part of his visit on April 14, Modi will travel to Saharanpur to review the wildlife passage integrated into the elevated section of the high-speed corridor. He will also offer prayers at Maa Daat Kali Temple before inaugurating the project at a public event in Dehradun, where he is scheduled to address a gathering. The government said the project reflects its push for next-generation infrastructure, combining high-speed connectivity with sustainability and improved commuter experience.Key features of the corridor include10 interchanges3 railway overbridges4 major bridges12 wayside amenitiesIt is also equipped with an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) to improve safety and efficiency.
Given the region’s ecological sensitivity, the project incorporates several measures to reduce human-wildlife conflict. These include a 12-km-long elevated wildlife corridor — among the longest in Asia — along with eight animal passes, two 200-metre elephant underpasses, and a 370-metre tunnel near the Maa Daat Kali Temple.
