President Murmu to visit Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania to boost trade and strategic ties

President Droupadi Murmu will undertake a week-long visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania from July 19 to 25, as India looks to deepen political and economic engagement with the three European countries.The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the countries are keen to position themselves as gateways to larger European markets through the Balkans, creating new opportunities for trade and investment.

President Murmu will begin her visit in Moldova, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian President to the country.

During the visit, she will hold delegation-level talks with Moldovan President Maia Sandu and meet Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. She is also scheduled to interact with members of the Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, address a business forum and meet members of the Indian community.The MEA said the visit offers significant scope to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, information technology and education.From July 21 to 22, President Murmu will visit North Macedonia at the invitation of President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova. This will also be the first-ever visit by an Indian President to the country.She is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Siljanovska-Davkova, meet Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the President of the Assembly, address the Parliament of North Macedonia, and speak at the India-North Macedonia Business Forum.According to the MEA, both countries have expressed interest in expanding cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, and IT and IT-enabled services.In the final leg of her tour, President Murmu will visit Romania from July 23 to 25 at the invitation of President Nicușor Dan. The visit will be the first by an Indian President to Romania in more than three decades.During her stay, she will hold talks with President Dan, meet Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and other senior leaders, and address the India-Romania Business Forum.The visit is expected to further strengthen India’s engagement with Central and Eastern Europe while expanding trade, investment and strategic partnerships across the region.
