Quentin Griffiths, Asos co-founder, dies in ‘mysterious balcony fall’ in Thailand

Date:

Quentin Griffiths, the co-founder of online fashion giant ASOS, has reportedly died after falling from a high-rise apartment balcony in Thailand. He was 58 years old.

The multi-millionaire retail entrepreneur is said to have mysteriously plunged to his death from his 17th-floor condominium in Pattaya, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police found no signs of disturbance within the residence, but they have not ruled out foul play pending more examinations on his body, as per a report by The Sun.
Griffiths, who made his fortune after launching ASOS in 2000, had been involved in a bitter row with his Thai ex-wife, who accused him of stealing £500,000 from their company.Last year, Griffiths was arrested and questioned by detectives on his ex-wife’s claims that he had forged documents to sell land and shares in the firm, but he insisted he was innocent and was released.

Police and paramedics located him on the ground below the balcony of his Pattaya high-rise condo.

The investigation is ongoing, with police awaiting the results of a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

“We are supporting the family of a British national who has died in Thailand and are in contact with the local authorities,” a Foreign Office spokesman said, as per The Sun.

A source close to the family described the circumstances as “a real mystery”. “The phrase ‘suspicious circumstances’ has been used, but we just don’t know yet,” the source said, as per The Sun.

The company grew into a £3 billion global phenomenon, with its own-label designs notably worn by figures like the Princess of Wales and Michelle Obama.

A former advertising executive, Griffiths resigned as marketing director after just four years but subsequently made substantial fortunes from share sales, including a £15 million share sale in 2010 and another stock windfall in 2013.

Griffiths, a father of three, had moved to Thailand in 2007 and married a Thai woman after divorcing his first wife. The couple had a son and a daughter, but they separated several years ago, as per the report.
