RIL’s bold leap into new energy: World’s largest bioenergy R&D, agrivoltaics, and more

Date:

Reliance Industries on Friday unveiled a slew of New Energy initiatives at its 48th Annual General Meeting, signalling a push to make India a global clean energy leader. At the AGM, Executive Director Anant Ambani presented updates on Reliance’s New Energy initiatives, detailing the launch of 55 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants this year and the company’s vision to scale to over 500 plants by 2030.

At Jamnagar, Reliance has established the world’s largest Bioenergy Technology and R&D Centre, developing advanced enzymes, microbial consortia, and high-yield energy crops to boost biogas productivity.

The company is also creating integrated energy hubs on wastelands, combining smart farms, modular CBG and green hydrogen plants, agrivoltaics, and battery storage. Also Read: Four times bigger than Tesla Gigafactory: India’s richest man throws the gauntlet

A standout initiative is agrivoltaics, where CBG production coexists with solar power on the same land. By capturing biogenic CO2 from CBG plants, these hubs aim to become platforms for green chemicals, moving closer to fossil parity.

Reliance said this model would generate triple value for farmers – green gas, green electricity, and higher rural incomes – and emerge as a major growth engine for India’s clean energy future.

Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani congratulated the Energy Business leadership for their operational excellence, emphasising the company’s vision to set global benchmarks in executing New Energy projects.
