SAIL CMD Amarendu Prakash resigns; Krishna Kumar Singh given interim charge

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has announced a change in its top leadership, with Chairman and Managing Director Amarendu Prakash stepping down from his role.Amarendu Prakash has resigned as the Chairman and Managing Director of the company with effect from April 1, 2026. Following his resignation, he has ceased to be a member of the company’s board from the same date.

The company further stated that Krishna Kumar Singh has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director for a temporary period. He has been given additional charge of the position for three months with effect from April 2, 2026.
The interim appointment will remain in place until July 1, 2026, or until a regular incumbent is appointed and assumes charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.Krishna Kumar Singh, who currently serves as Director (Personnel) at SAIL, will oversee the responsibilities of the Chairman and Managing Director during this interim period.

The development marks a transition phase in the company’s leadership structure, with the government approving both the resignation and the temporary appointment as part of the board’s reconstitution.

SAIL shares closed lower on the NSE at ₹154.40, down ₹1.42 or 0.91%.
