The broader markets outperformed significantly, with the midcap index surging 2.6% compared to the Nifty’s 0.3% gain.Financial heavyweights, including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Reliance Industries, emerged as the biggest contributors to the Nifty’s gains. However, the IT sector remained under pressure due to growth concerns, with Tech Mahindra, TCS, and Infosys leading the list of top losers. Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto gained nearly 2% following the reappointment of Rajiv Bajaj as managing director and CEO.
Defence stocks saw a sharp rally on positive market cues, with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) rising 4%, Garden Reach Shipbuilders surging 20%, and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders climbing 11%. Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel bsended the session in the green but pared gains amid reports suggesting an AGR waiver was unlikely.
Among the top midcap gainers were Sun TV, Max Healthcare, HUDCO, and Titagarh, while capital market stocks, including Angel One, CAMS, and CDSL, also saw sustained buying. On the other hand, Phoenix Mills, Zee Entertainment, Navin Fluorine, and Hexaware were among the top midcap losers.
