Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Sensex jumped 546 points to 85,221 and Nifty rose 191 to 26,130, led by JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries and ONGC. IT stocks lagged, Vodafone Idea and Hindustan Zinc fell.

Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equities snapped a four-day losing streak and wrapped up 2025 on a firm note, with benchmarks rising nearly 1% on broad-based buying. The Sensex gained 546 points to 85,221, while the Nifty added 191 points to close at 26,130, crossing the 26,100 mark.Banks, metals and oil & gas led the rally. The Nifty Bank rose 411 points and the midcap index climbed 570 points. Steel stocks jumped after the government announced a three-year safeguard duty, with JSW Steel and Tata Steel among the top gainers. Reliance Industries and ONGC supported the benchmarks, while auto stocks moved higher on expectations of healthy December sales.

IT stocks lagged despite the strong session, with TCS and Tech Mahindra among the top losers. Vodafone Idea fell sharply after the Cabinet cleared a restructuring of AGR dues, while Hindustan Zinc slipped around 2% tracking weakness in silver prices. Swiggy ended its first day in the F&O segment lower, and PB Fintech extended losses amid regulatory concerns.

For the full year, the Sensex and Nifty rose about 10% each, but underperformed several Asian peers and global indices. Market breadth at the close favoured advances, with an advance-decline ratio of 2:1.
