Speaking at the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva on July 8, Swiss Federal Councillor Albert Rösti said that as AI becomes more powerful and widely deployed, efforts must continue to ensure its development remains “trustworthy, inclusive and centred on human needs.”
He added that “responsible innovation and technological progress are not competing objectives” but “reinforce one another.”In a statement, the Swiss Embassy in India said the 2027 summit will focus on two strategic priorities: “AI as a driver of prosperity and progress for all” and “fostering trustworthy, responsible and safe use of AI.”
The embassy said Switzerland aims to strengthen global AI governance by building on the outcomes of previous AI summits held in Bletchley, Seoul, Paris and New Delhi.
It added that establishing stable and effective mechanisms for global discussions on AI governance remains a key priority, arguing that Geneva, as a global hub for multilateral diplomacy, is well placed to host such conversations.
According to the embassy, the Geneva summit will bring together governments, international organisations, the private sector, civil society and researchers to shape the future of international AI cooperation.
