Talks to continue through week; Araghchi cites progress on Lebanon, sanctions

US-Iran War Live Updates: A fragile diplomatic opening is facing its first major test as the fresh round of US-Iran talks moves into Monday, June 22.The Lake Lucerne Summit in Switzerland has concluded with what mediators Qatar and Pakistan called “encouraging progress”, including a 60-day roadmap for a final deal, a mechanism for further technical talks, and working groups on nuclear issues, sanctions, monitoring and dispute resolution.

The most immediate flashpoints remain Lebanon and the Strait of Hormuz.

According to an update from Qatar, the parties have agreed to set up a Lebanon de-confliction cell and a communication line to avoid incidents involving commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

However, the process is already under pressure after US President Donald Trump threatened fresh strikes if Iran-backed groups in Lebanon “cause trouble”.

Meanwhile, QatarEnergy reported an explosion and fire at the Barzan gas facility in Ras Laffan on Sunday night which it said has been brought under control.

Technical talks are expected to continue through the week at the Bürgenstock resort.

“Tireless Pakistani and Qatari mediation has delivered major progress to end Lebanon War. Oil and petrochem exports are waived, blockade lifted, some frozen assets released, and major reconstruction and development plan launched for Iran,” Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said after first day of talks ended.

Brent crude rose more than 1% to trade around $81.50 a barrel.
