Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran’s FY26 pay rises to ₹158.6 crore, highest in five years

Tata Sons Executive Chairman N Chandrasekaran received a total remuneration of ₹158.6 crore for FY26, marking his highest annual compensation since the holding company began disclosing directors’ pay in its financial statements.The remuneration comprised ₹17.9 crore in salary and allowances, while ₹140.7 crore was paid as commission, highlighting the performance-linked nature of his compensation.

With the latest payout, Chandrasekaran’s cumulative remuneration over the last five financial years has reached about ₹685 crore, according to the company’s annual report.

His FY26 remuneration also accounted for nearly 80% of the total compensation paid to all Tata Sons directors during the year.Chandrasekaran’s pay package places him among India’s highest-paid corporate leaders. However, it remains below the ₹176 crore remuneration received by HCLTech CEO C Vijayakumar in FY26.

Chandrasekaran’s remuneration has steadily increased over the years. He earned ₹155 crore in FY25 and ₹134.8 crore in FY24, with FY26 marking the highest annual payout during the five-year period.

The disclosure comes ahead of an important shareholder vote at Tata Sons’ annual general meeting scheduled for next month.Although Chandrasekaran’s current five-year term as executive chairman runs until February 2027, he is due to retire by rotation and must obtain shareholder approval to continue as a director on the board.
