TCS reacts to Nashik sexual harassment probe, says employees being investigated and suspended

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s biggest software exporter, has come under scrutiny following nine FIRs citing episodes of sexual harassment and religious conversion at the company’s Nashik operation.TCS has stated that it has a “zero-tolerance” policy for any kind of coercion or harassment. Six employees have been arrested in connection with the crime, and the business has already suspended the employees under investigation.

A TCS spokesperson on April 12 said, “As soon as we were made aware of the matter in Nashik, we took swift action. The employees being investigated have been suspended pending an enquiry. We are cooperating with the local law enforcement authorities, and any further action will be based on the conclusion of this investigation.”
“TCS has a long-standing zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and coercion of any form. We have always ensured the highest standards of safety and well-being of our employees at the workplace,” the company added.Devendra Fadnavis, the chief minister of Maharashtra, has taken notice of the situation, describing it as “very serious” and commending the Nashik police for their prompt action.

The HR representative of the Pune-based IT company is being questioned by the Nashik police for allegedly failing to respond to the women’s complaints.

Police said that some victims had previously complained to the HR manager, but nothing was done about it. According to an officer cited by The Indian Express, “We issued her a notice to join the probe at a later date.”

Government Institutes a Special Investigation TeamA special investigation team (SIT) has been set up to investigate the case.

A woman filed a lawsuit in March, claiming that a coworker had kept up a sexual relationship with her by making marriage promises. According to the article, police filed eight additional FIRs on sexual harassment and religious conversion throughout the inquiry.

At least six employees of the company have been taken into custody thus far. The Nashik Police Commissioner’s office got intelligence inputs that led to the action.

Asif Ansari, Shafi Sheikh, Shah Rukh Qureshi, Raza Memon, Tausif Attar, Danish Sheikh, and an unidentified woman are among those detained.

A guy and at least eight women have come forward to voice their complaints about the group that works for the corporation. According to the Indian Express story, the complaint involves coercing them into eating beef and making fun of Hindu gods and goddesses. In certain instances, there are allegations of sexual assault.
