Customers across India can now reserve the models through VinFast showrooms or online for a fully refundable booking amount of ₹21,000.Tesla in India: A long courtshipTesla CEO Elon Musk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023 and publicly committed to entering the Indian market “soon”. Several state governments have since pitched potential factory locations, with Maharashtra and Gujarat leading the race.Neeta Sharda, Principal Architect at Trident Interiors and Designers, who led the design of Tesla’s first India showroom at BKC in Mumbai, told CNBC-TV18 that the project was internally dubbed “Operation Peacock” — a highly confidential initiative ahead of the brand’s launch.Sharda revealed that Tesla’s team envisioned an all-white theme for the space, aligning with its global design language, and added that a dedicated Tesla service workshop is also in the works.Tesla’s move comes at a time when the Indian government has introduced a new EV policy allowing lower import duties for automakers committing to local manufacturing within three years.
