The rupee may be overcooked from the West Asia heat

The Indian currency came eerily close to the 97 mark against the US dollar this week. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has spent $29 billion since the start of 2026 defending the rupee, a little less than the $34 billion withdrawn by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) over the last two fiscal years.
