Amid these sweeping immigration reforms, data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) revealed that in FY 2024, H-1B approvals remained heavily concentrated in just a handful of countries. Out of 399,395 total approved H-1B beneficiaries, the following nations represent the top five contributors: (Image: Canva)

1. India | India continues to dominate the H-1B program, accounting for a staggering 71% of all approvals. Indian professionals remained the backbone of the US tech workforce, particularly in software engineering, data analytics, and IT consulting. (Image: Canva)

2. China | China ranks a distant second with 11.7% of total approvals. Along with India, it accounts for more than 80% of all H-1B beneficiaries. Chinese nationals are largely employed in high-end research, artificial intelligence, and semiconductor manufacturing roles across major US technology hubs.

3. Philippines | The Philippines accounts for 1.3% of approved beneficiaries. Skilled workers from the country contribute to the US economy across healthcare, IT support, and business process management sectors.

4. Canada | At 1.1%, Canada continues to supply a steady stream of professionals to the US, primarily from the technology and engineering industries. Cross-border employment mobility remains strong despite changing visa dynamics. (Image: Reuters)

5. South Korea | South Korea rounds out the top five with 1.0% of total H-1B approvals. Korean professionals often fill roles in electronics, design, and mechanical engineering, reflecting the country’s strong industrial expertise.
