Torrent recalls select Semalix diabetes injection pens after Dr Reddy’s flags quality issue

Pharma company Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd on Thursday (July 9) said it has initiated a voluntary recall of select batches of Semalix injection disposable pens as a precautionary measure, following a product recall notification from manufacturer Dr Reddy’s Laboratories for technical evaluation.The recall applies only to select batches of Semalix Injection 2 mg and 4 mg manufactured by Dr Reddy’s Laboratories.


Torrent said there is no risk to patients currently undergoing treatment and stressed that patient safety remains its top priority. The unaffected products include Semalix tablets in 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg strengths; Sembolic tablets in 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg strengths manufactured by Torrent; Semalix Injection 8 mg manufactured by MSN Laboratories; and the Sembolic reusable injection manufactured by Zydus Lifesciences.
Torrent has advised patients and caregivers seeking clarification about the affected products to contact the company.Earlier in the day, Hyderabad-based Dr Reddy’s Laboratories informed exchanges about a delay in semaglutide supplies.

In an exchange filing, Dr Reddy’s said certain batches of semaglutide were found to be out of specification due to an issue with the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) used in the product.

“We are investigating the root cause and taking appropriate measures to ensure product quality,” the company said.

Dr Reddy’s added that commercial supplies of the product would be delayed until the issue is resolved. It also clarified that there is no impact on patient safety or on the product’s existing global regulatory filings.

Shares of Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd ended at ₹4,896.65, up ₹29.20, or 0.6%, on the BSE.
