While Trump referred to “$300 million”, the denial appeared to address widespread reports surrounding an alleged $300 billion reconstruction or economic development package linked to the peace deal.
The prospect of a large reconstruction fund emerged after Iran’s state-linked Mehr News Agency reported that the US and its allies would help finance Iran’s post-war rebuilding efforts following more than three months of instability.
Tehran had previously argued that the US and Israel should compensate Iran for damage caused during the war that began on February 28.The agreement, which Trump said has already been signed electronically, is expected to form the basis for further negotiations between the two sides in the coming weeks.
Questions over the funding package remain unresolved as many elements of the agreement are still subject to technical negotiations. Details of the deal are not made public yet.
Iran has also claimed that the draft 14-point agreement provides for the release of $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets during a 60-day negotiation period, including $12 billion before talks begin.
The US and Iran have signalled that one immediate outcome of the agreement would be the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump has said the waterway will remain open, while Iranian officials have indicated access would be restored for all commercial vessels.
