Trump says Iran shot down US military helicopter, vows response

Date:

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that Iran had shot down a US Apache helicopter that was patrolling the Strait of Hormuz overnight and pledged that the United States would respond to the incident. In a post on social media, Trump said he had been informed by the US military that an Apache helicopter had been downed by Iranian forces while conducting a patrol over the Strait of Hormuz.

The US President added that Washington would respond to the attack, saying, “Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack.”

Trump did not provide further details about the incident, including the location of the crash, the condition of the crew, or the nature of the planned response.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region and places fresh focus on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for global oil supplies. The development came as Iran-USA conflict has crossed 100 days.
Yesterday on June 8, Iran had announced that it has concluded its current military operations against Israel, shortly after US President Donald Trump said both sides were moving towards an immediate ceasefire after days of escalating strikes.

The latest escalation had followed Iranian missile attacks on Israel over Sunday and Monday, after which Israel carried out strikes on military targets in western and central Iran.

Israel also targeted Iran’s Karun petrochemical facility in Mahshahr on Monday.
