Trump says US military helped move 100 million barrels of oil through Strait of Hormuz

Date:

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that the American military had carried out a secret mission to ensure the safe passage of oil tankers and commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy shipping routes.

In a post on social media, Trump said he had directed the US military last month to support oil tankers and other commercial ships transiting the strategic waterway amid heightened tensions in the region.

“Today, I am pleased to announce that this effort has resulted in more than 100 million barrels of oil making its way through the Strait, and into the open market,” Trump said.

According to the US President, more than 200 commercial vessels safely navigated the Strait of Hormuz during the operation.

Trump attributed the outcome to US military strength, claiming that the United States, rather than Iran, effectively controlled the waterway.

“This wildly successful effort is because the United States of America controls the Strait of Hormuz — not Iran,” he said.

The President also declared that Iran’s military had been defeated and that its economy was “lost”, adding, “It’s over for Iran.”

The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is one of the world’s most important chokepoints for energy trade, with a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments passing through the route.

Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions involving Iran and concerns over the security of shipping lanes in the region. The White House did not immediately provide additional details about the military operation referenced by the President.

The claims could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate response from Iranian authorities.
