US-Iran War Live Updates: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran had “consistently honored its commitments” and explored every avenue to avoid war, while insisting that “all paths remain open” from Iran’s side as US President Donald Trump said he could wait a few more days for the “right answer”.In a post on X, Pezeshkian said forcing Iran to surrender through coercion was “nothing but an illusion” and argued that “mutual respect in diplomacy is far wiser, safer, and more sustainable than war.”
Trump said the US was prepared to launch further attacks on Tehran if Iran did not agree to a peace deal, though he signalled Washington could wait “a few days” to “get the right answers”.
Meanwhile, Iran has enforced a multilayered inspection system for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil trade.
Three supertankers carrying around 6 million barrels of crude were crossing the strait toward Asian markets on Wednesday, May 20, Reuters reported.
