Trump threatens fresh Iran strikes, says US could take control of oil infrastructure

Date:

US President Donald Trump has threatened major military action against Iran, saying the United States would hit the country “very hard” and indicating that key Iranian oil infrastructure could eventually come under US control. In a social media post, Trump claimed that Iran’s navy, air force, radar systems, anti-aircraft defences and much of its offensive military capability were “gone.” He said the United States would be “hitting Iran very hard tonight.”

Trump also said that, at some point in the future, the United States would take Kharg Island and other oil infrastructure points and assume control of Iran’s oil and gas markets.
The US President compared the potential approach to Venezuela, saying it had worked out “brilliantly” for both countries.
Earlier, on June 10 also Trump had declared that the United States will launch additional “very hard” strikes against Iran later in the day, following US attacks on Iranian targets a day earlier.Trump had blamed Tehran for delaying peace negotiations and urged Iran to agree to a deal with Washington.

“We were really close to a deal but they keep tapping us along,” Trump said.
However, the US President did not clarify whether American forces would also target major Iranian infrastructure, including bridges and utility facilities, as he had threatened earlier in the conflict.

Trump’s latest remarks highlighted the shifting US approach to the war. Earlier this week, Iran and Israel have also exchanged strikes.
