According to a media note issued by the US Department of State spokesperson’s office, Gor will meet senior leaders in Sri Lanka to reaffirm the importance of the bilateral relationship and deepen cooperation across key sectors. “Special Envoy Gor’s meetings will further support U.S. efforts to safeguard vital sea lanes and secure ports, reinforce mutually beneficial trade and commercial ties, and advance a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific for the benefit of both our peoples,” the note said.
In the Maldives, Gor is scheduled to meet senior government officials to reaffirm Washington’s commitment to the bilateral relationship and advance security cooperation. He will also explore opportunities to support the island nation’s efforts to develop critical infrastructure and expand its economy.The visit will also mark 60 years of diplomatic ties between the United States and the Maldives. The note added that the US “values its enduring partnerships with Sri Lanka and Maldives” and their “shared commitment to regional security and stability.”
