US envoys cancel planned Israel visit amid escalating Iran conflict: Report

Date:

US President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, have called off their planned visit to Israel, Israeli state broadcaster Kan TV reported on Monday, as regional tensions escalate following joint US–Israeli strikes on Iran. No official reason has been disclosed.

The two officials were scheduled to arrive in Israel on Tuesday for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to local media reports.

The development comes after Trump expressed displeasure over Iran appointing Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on February 28.

“I am not happy with Iran’s selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as its new Supreme Leader,” Trump told Fox News.

Much of West Asia is now facing a warlike environment as US‑Israeli and Iranian forces continue to exchange missile and drone strikes since February 28.

In response, Washington has introduced additional security measures across the region, including ordering the departure of non-essential US diplomatic staff from multiple countries.

Witkoff, Trump’s Middle East envoy, and Kushner, the President’s son‑in‑law and senior adviser, have been central to several diplomatic efforts, including negotiations with Iran and discussions with Israeli leadership on regional security and the situation in Gaza.
