US-Iran War: Amazon says three data centres in UAE, Bahrain damaged by drone strikes

Date:

Amazon Web Services said that two of its data centers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and one in Bahrain have been damaged in drone strikes amidst the ongoing war with Iran.In a statement released late Monday evening local time, AWS said that the facilities have been taken offline as a result of these attacks.

“These strikes have caused structural damage, disrupted power delivery to our infrastructure, and in some cases required fire suppression activities that resulted in additional water damage,” as per the statement.
The first statement was released on Sunday local time with the AWS health dashboard suggesting that “objects” had hit the data centers in the UAE, causing sparks and fire. Power and connectivity issues at the Bahrain site were also being investigated, the statement said further.Confirmation of the drone strike was revealed in the latest AWS statement timed 7:19 PM Eastern Time.

Although the AWS has said that it is working towards restoring services in the area quickly, it expects the recovery to be prolonged, given the “nature of the physical damage” involved. A new statement could be released midnight in case any latest developments take place.

AWS is also working towards restoring data access and service availability in the affected regions, which does not require the facilities to be fully brought back online. It said customers with workloads in the area should consider taking steps to mitigate impacts from the conflict, including backing up their data or potentially migrating their workloads to other AWS regions.

Amazon.com has already warned customers of delayed delivery timelines in the Middle East due to the ongoing situation.
