US-Iran War LIVE Updates: The United States is set to begin “Project Freedom”, a military-backed operation aimed at restoring commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, even as tensions with Iran show little sign of easing. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the mission will support merchant vessels navigating the critical trade corridor, through which roughly a quarter of global seaborne oil passes.US President Donald Trump described the move as a “humanitarian gesture” to assist neutral countries whose ships have been stranded for weeks, warning that any interference would be met “forcefully.” The operation will involve destroyers, aircraft, unmanned systems and around 15,000 personnel.

The development comes amid a broader standoff, with Iran continuing to restrict access to the strait and reviewing a US response to its 14-point peace proposal. Trump said he is unlikely to accept the plan, while Tehran has signalled nuclear talks will remain paused.
