Vedanta Power reports 38% rise in Q1 power sales, led by Meenakshi Energy

Date:

Vedanta Power Ltd reported a 38% year-on-year increase in power sales to 5,225 million units in the first quarter of FY27, compared with 3,784 million units a year earlier. The growth was led by Meenakshi Energy Ltd, where power sales surged 245% year-on-year and 16% sequentially to 1,350 million units.

The company said the sharp increase in Meenakshi Energy’s power sales should be viewed in the context of capacity expansion. Q1 FY26 performance reflected operations of a single 300 MW unit, while Q4 FY26 and Q1 FY27 performance are presented on the expanded 1,000 MW operational capacity base.
Power sales from the Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant stood at 2,723 million units, broadly unchanged from 2,715 million units in the year-ago period. Sales from Jharsuguda Thermal Plant rose marginally to 687 million units from 678 million units.
Sakti Thermal Plant reported power sales of 465 million units during the quarter. The company said the decline was primarily due to reduced plant availability following a boiler incident on April 14, which significantly impacted operations. At Talwandi Sabo, the Plant Availability Factor (PAF) stood at 86% during the quarter, compared with 90% in the corresponding period last year. The company said the plant’s availability remained above the 80% normative level under its power purchase agreement with the Punjab government.

Jharsuguda Thermal Plant reported a Plant Availability Factor of 93% during the quarter, compared with 66% a year ago.

Vedanta Power Ltd was demerged from Vedanta Ltd during the first quarter of FY27. The company said the quarter includes both pre- and post-demerger periods and that comparisons with prior periods should be viewed accordingly.

Shares of Vedanta Power Ltd ended 6.27% lower at ₹45.59 on the NSE on Friday.
