Watch: JD Vance recalls hilarious ‘red button’ moment with President Trump in Oval Office

Date:

United States Vice President JD Vance has recounted a hilarious experience during a serious discussion with President Donald Trump early in his presidency. Vance recounted how, following heated discussions with a leader, Trump mockingly pressed a red button on the Resolute Desk.Trump, according to Vance, muted the call, muttered, “This is not going very well,” and then pressed a red button. “My eyes get really big…he looks at me and goes, ‘NUCLEAR,’” Vance added.
A staff member showed up with a Diet Coke, and that explained the button’s actual function. “He looks back and me, says, ‘it wasn’t nuclear, it’s just the Diet Coke button,’” Trump reportedly said.
Vance recounted the hilarious story in a public gathering, emphasising Trump’s capacity to remain humorous under such pressure conditions. “That’s the kind of guy we have as President, someone who can do the job and still keep his sense of humour,” Vance said.Watch the video here on X (formerly Twitter):

One X user commented, “He’s actually a hilarious dude, apart from being a great leader,” praising President Trump.

“That’s the kind of humour AND confidence we need in the White House,” a second comment read.

“Trump mixes humour with leadership like no one else,” another said.

The US Vice President was a constant support for the President when tensions heightened between him and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

“President Trump has done more than any person in my lifetime to earn the trust of the movement he leads. I’m proud to stand beside him,” Vance posted on X on June 6.

In an early June social media post on X, Vance also backed the president’s call for the central bank to loosen monetary policy after the latest inflation data revealed that tariffs had not yet significantly increased inflation.

Vance has also reportedly developed a network of Wall Street associates over the past ten years who have contributed millions of dollars to the Trump campaign’s fundraising efforts since Vance joined the ticket in July 2024.
