US President says India will be paying tariffs while the US will not, and asserts tariffs were used to end five of eight wars he claims to have settled.

US President Donald Trump said the India-US trade agreement will remain unchanged, even as he criticised the US Supreme Court for restricting his use of emergency tariff powers.
Trump said that “nothing changes w.r.t trade deal with India,” asserting that “they will be paying & we will not be paying tariffs.”
He added, “PM Modi is a great man; he was much smarter than the people that he was against in terms of the US. We are not paying tariffs to India now & they are paying to us; we did a little flip.”
His remarks followed the Supreme Court’s decision to limit the use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) for imposing broad-based tariffs, a mechanism Trump had relied on during his second term.
Trump also said, “Tariffs have likewise been used to end 5 of the 8 wars I have settled. I have settled 8 wars, whether you like it or not, including India- Pakistan, big ones, could have been nuclear.”

Referring to Pakistan, he said, “The Prime Minister of Pakistan said yesterday at the Peace Board meeting that President Trump could have saved 35 million lives by getting us to stop fighting. They were getting ready to do some bad things…”
US President Donald Trump has decided to increase the tariffs on imports coming into America by 10%, over and above the current applicable rates.
The new tariffs would likely be applicable under under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974.
