Who is Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the suspect behind the Colorado firebomb attack

Date:

At least six people were injured during a pro-Israel demonstration outside the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado. The incident happened during a vigil organised by Run For Their Lives, a volunteer group raising awareness for Israeli hostages held in Gaza.Authorities identified the suspect as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, who purportedly deployed Molotov cocktails along with a makeshift flamethrower against demonstrators while reportedly shouting ‘Free Palestine’ and ‘End Zionists’.
They said his act was ideologically driven.
Soliman was shirtless and wearing jeans and sunglasses at the time of the attack. He was detained and taken to a hospital for minor injuries. A video circulating online showed him wielding spray bottles with flames on the ground while shouting slogans.Who is Mohamed Sabry Soliman?

Mohamed Sabry Soliman is an Egyptian national who entered the United States on a B-2 tourist visa through Los Angeles International Airport on August 27, 2022, according to a report in NDTV. He had reportedly overstayed his visa and had been residing illegally in the United States at the time of the attack.According to a report in The Times of India, Trump aide Stephen Miller alleged that Soliman was allowed to work and stay in the US despite visa violations due to the immigration policies of the Biden administration. Soliman worked in finance and digital marketing; however, an official confirmation of the same is pending.

Reports stated that Soliman has not been formally charged yet but will be held ‘fully accountable’. The reason behind the attack is still being looked into.

The FBI deployed additional resources to probe the assault, which they consider a ‘terrorist act’. The Justice Department, reports added, condemned the attack while identifying it as a component of a troubling pattern of antisemitic violence emerging across the United States.

The victims of the attack — aged between 67 and 88 — sustained burn injuries, some of which were severe. The eyewitnesses recounted it was a chaotic scene as bystanders scrambled to help the injured, several of whom were wrapped in Israeli flags.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis, condemning the act, said ‘hate-filled acts’ were not acceptable. The law enforcement evacuated blocks around the mall shortly after the attack.
