Who is Nitai Roy Chowdhury?
Nitai Roy Chowdhury is a seasoned Bangladeshi politician and lawyer who serves as a vice-chairman of the BNP. He is one of two Hindu candidates — alongside Goyeshwar Chandra Roy — to have won seats on a BNP ticket in the recent election, as per News18.Chowdhury was elected to parliament from the Magura-2 constituency, defeating a Jamaat-e-Islami rival.
A senior adviser and strategist within the BNP, he is expected to be assigned a key portfolio, with reports suggesting he may head the Ministry of Cultural Affairs once cabinet responsibilities are finalised.
Nitai Roy Chowdhury's education and career
Born on January 7, 1949, in Hatbaria village in Magura, Chowdhury graduated from the University of Dhaka and built a long career in law and politics.

He has previously served as minister for youth and sports in 1990 under the Hussain Muhammad Ershad’s administration and later held state ministerial roles in education and law.
He is also the father of Nipun Roy Chowdhury, a BNP leader and advocate, as per News18.
Bangladesh elections 2026 and results
Rahman’s BNP secured 209 of the 297 parliamentary seats, while the right-wing Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats in the 13th parliamentary polls. Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League was barred from contesting the election.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to the 60-year-old Rahman at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, marking a break from the long-standing practice of holding the ceremony at Bangabhaban.
Earlier the same day, BNP lawmakers elected Rahman as their parliamentary party leader.

The cabinet line-up includes several senior BNP figures as ministers and state ministers, among them Nitai Roy Chowdhury, who stands out as the lone Hindu representative in the new government.
