The incident occurred around 1:40 am on Sunday, April 12, reported The San Francisco Standard. According to a preliminary police report, a Honda sedan carrying two individuals stopped near Altman’s residence after initially passing the property minutes earlier.
The report states that the passenger appeared to extend their arm out of the window and fire a shot toward the Lombard side, based on surveillance footage and statements from security staff who heard the gunfire.The vehicle reportedly fled the scene, but its licence plate was captured on camera, enabling police to trace and seize it later. Officers subsequently reached the 2000 block of Taylor Street, where they detained the two suspects without any incident, and a search of the premises led to the recovery of three firearms.

The incident comes amid growing concerns highlighted by Sam Altman, who, following the earlier Molotov cocktail attack, spoke publicly about rising concerns surrounding artificial intelligence. He also attributed the timing of the violence to an ‘incendiary’ article, which he believed made him a more visible target.

Addressing the growing fears about AI, he said, ” Someone said to me yesterday they thought it was coming at a time of great anxiety about AI and that it made things more dangerous for me. I brushed it aside.”The first incident occurred on Friday morning, when a 20-year-old man from Texas, identified as Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama, allegedly attacked the property from the north on Chestnut.
San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew commended officers for their prompt response, stating that the department treats gun-related offences with utmost seriousness and will ensure strict legal action against those involved.
“The SFPD takes crimes involving guns extremely seriously, and anyone committing acts like these will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I want to thank our officers whose swift actions identified these suspects, took them into custody, and got dangerous weapons off our streets,” Lew said. Police have also urged anyone with relevant information to contact the SFPD.
