Of these, nine consignments, valued at ₹7.45 crore, were rejected because of antibiotic residues, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said.Antibiotic residue-related rejections have resulted in an estimated ₹176.8 crore in losses for Indian exporters since 2018. Other reasons for rejection included bacteriological contamination, poor hygienic handling and inadequate time-temperature control.Despite the rejections, the ministry said India’s overall shrimp consignment rejection rate stood at just 0.13% of total exports during the period.The US accounted for the bulk of the rejections, rejecting 313 consignments, or about 70% of the total.
