Zelenskyy ditches the camouflage, shares laugh with Trump over suit swap

Date:

In the middle of tense global talks, a rare lighthearted moment broke the seriousness in the Oval Office as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky showed up not in his usual military gear but in a sleek black suit. The change didn’t go unnoticed.

“You look fabulous in that suit,” a report on CNN quoted Brian Glenn of Real America’s Voice as saying. The reporter had previously questioned Zelensky’s choice to wear a military sweatshirt during the Ukrainian President’s February visit to the White House.

“I said the same thing,” the CNN report quoted President Trump as chiming in, clearly amused.Zelensky didn’t miss a beat. Pointing at Glenn, he smiled and said, “You’re in the same suit. I changed, you have not,” the report added.

According to the report, Zelensky’s outfit was discussed ahead of the meeting, with US and Ukrainian aides agreeing that this time, he’d leave the green combat sweatshirt behind.

After all, February’s visit had Trump joking that he’d gotten “all dressed up” while Zelensky looked ready for the front lines.

This time, the Ukrainian leader matched the room, looking polished, professional and dressed for diplomacy. And for a brief moment, the heavy topics at hand gave way to a little laughter and some good old-fashioned banter.
