Adani-run Navi Mumbai Airport sees steady passenger movement on day one

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) began commercial operations on Wednesday, December 25, marking a major expansion of aviation capacity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.The airport, developed and operated by Adani Airports Holdings Ltd, handled 48 flights to and from nine domestic destinations on its first day, serving over 4,000 passengers. Peak traffic was recorded during the early morning hours between 5 am and 7 am, indicating strong initial demand.The first commercial arrival, IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru, landed at 8 am and was accorded a water cannon salute. With NMIA becoming operational, Mumbai joins other global metropolitan regions such as London, New York and Tokyo that operate multiple airports to manage growing passenger volumes.NMIA has been built to reduce congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and is among India’s largest greenfield airport projects.
