The Union government continues to neglect developed States, including Tamil Nadu, in the distribution of taxes to the States. It is disappointing to note that the demand of various States, including Tamil Nadu, to increase the share of tax revenues to the States from 41 per cent to 50 per cent has been ignored this time too, he said.
“While we were eagerly waiting for the welfare of Tamil Nadu to be included in this budget, no new schemes have been introduced. The fact that there are no new schemes for Tamil Nadu in this budget has exposed the fact that the Union government continues to treat Tamil Nadu with a step-motherly attitude,” he said.
Thirukkural, which is usually presented in the budget presented by the Union Finance Minister, was also not included this time. There are no major projects for Tamil Nadu, he said.
However, AIADMK general secretary Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K Palaniswami, said the Budget had a clear focus on strengthening fiscal management, reducing the fiscal deficit, and ensuring sustained economic growth.
The allocation of ₹2,000 crore to ensure credit access and ₹10,000 crore for MSME growth financing will benefit entrepreneurs and small industries. Tamil Nadu, which has a strong MSME base, will particularly gain from this, he said.
DMK Member of Parliament Kanimozhi in a social media message said, “Even elections couldn’t persuade the Union BJP government to remember Tamil Nadu in this budget.”
