Right from the very beginning, Green was touted to be the biggest draw at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. KKR, with a purse in the upwards of ₹60 crore, were always going to be the favourites to land this marquee acquisition. However, they had to battle the duo of Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to secure Green’s services.
Interestingly, Mumbai Indians (MI), with just ₹2.75 crore in their kitty, began the bidding for Green. RR took over from them when the five-time IPL champions backed out, and gave KKR a tough run for their money till the amount reached the ₹13 crore mark.
Then, CSK took over the reins.
