Newsom, a frontrunner among Democratic candidates for president in 2028, accompanied the post with an AI-generated image of himself with a ‘babyfied’ version of Trump and encouraged followers to “congratulate Daddy’s Little Helper”.
“In honour of lasting one full year in office, @CAGovernor Gavin Newsom today awarded Donald Trump the California Peace Prize. Please join us in congratulating Daddy’s Little Helper!” he said.

Newsom’s Trump meme sparked a frenzy among Internet users. A user wrote, “Trump receives his Nobel Peace Prize – WE CAN ALL RELAX NOW. @realDonaldTrump, you finally got it! Well deserved – congratulations.” Another commented, “he looks so happy with his little cup.”
The mockery coincided with news that 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado had recently presented her actual medal to Trump following the arrest of former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
The California governor also took a jab at it, labelling it ‘pathetic,’ while speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “Nobel Prizes that are being given away. It’s just pathetic. And I hope people understand how pathetic they look on the world stage,” he was quoted as saying by NBC Los Angeles.
In another post on X, Newsom shared a 20-second clip, highlighting Trump’s top flubs and biggest controversies from the past year, including Elon Musk’s Inauguration Day salute, the East Wing teardown, Trump’s screaming match with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and an ICE agent’s fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good.
“Inciting chaos, destruction, and corruption,” he wrote.

He also shared clips of himself speaking to the media at the World Economic Forum in Davos. “I don’t want to be hyperbolic about it, but this guy’s a wrecking ball,” he said.
It’s the “rule of Don,” not the rule of law. Trump is unhinged — and dangerous.
World leaders: Stop whispering in private and caving to him in public. Stand strong. Stand united!Wake up! pic.twitter.com/EBbZAFFcab

Donald Trump is headed to @WEF in Switzerland to brag about wrecking the American economy.
That’s why I’ve also flown to Davos — with an extra suitcase of kneepads for those caving to Trump’s insanity — to vigorously defend California as an alternative to Trump’s world disorder. https://t.co/U1C0eLhrzm— Governor Gavin Newsom (@CAgovernor) January 20, 2026
He has slammed European leaders for being ‘complicit’ in their dealings with Donald Trump over his bid to acquire Greenland. Newsom urged Europeans to ‘buck up’ and stand firm against Trump’s demands, saying they’re being ‘played’ and that their efforts to negotiate with him were “not diplomacy, it’s stupidity”.
“It’s time to buck up, it’s time to get serious and stop being complicit. I can’t take this complicity. People rolling over. I should have brought kneepads for all the world leaders … this is pathetic,” Newsom told reporters.
