US President Donald Trump on Thursday, March 26, said he would pause attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure for 10 days at Tehran’s request, signalling a possible diplomatic opening amid ongoing tensions.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the pause would remain in effect until Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. “As per Iranian Government request… I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 days,” he said, adding that negotiations with Iran were “going very well” despite what he described as “erroneous statements” in the media.

The announcement came as diplomatic engagements between Washington and Tehran continue, with Trump maintaining an optimistic tone about the progress of talks.
Speaking during a Cabinet meeting on Thursday morning, Trump said key officials, including special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushneralong with Vice President JD Vance, would assess whether negotiations were moving in the right direction. He added that there was still time before the deadline, issued earlier in the week in Washington, expires.
“We have a lot of time,” Trump said, adding, “In Trump time… that’s an eternity.”
A day earlier, Trump had struck a sharper tone, asserting that Iran was under pressure to reach an agreement. In another Truth Social post he urged Tehran to “get serious soon” about a peace deal, warning that time was running out.
The remarks followed Iran’s reported rejection of a 15-point US peace proposal. Trump described Iranian negotiators as “very different” and “strange,” and claimed they were effectively seeking a deal while publicly downplaying engagement.
He further asserted that Iran had been “militarily obliterated” and had “zero chance of a comeback,” while criticising its leadership for suggesting they were merely reviewing the US proposal.
“They’d better get serious soon, before it is too late,” Trump warned, adding that failure to act quickly could push the situation to a point of no return.
